5am I wake to a freezing morning and get dressed for work QUIETLY. I am an early riser. Mornings is when my concentration is at its best. All international orders come through over night. So I check my emails and compile sales orders ready for processing that day. I send all my emails to my suppliers / staff / so when everyone arrives at their work place we are ready to go for the day. While I am doing this I also have my mandatory cup of tea. I then check my bank accounts and catch up on my accounting tasks.I also write out a to do list for the day - this is imperative – I have a shocking memory.I reply to any emails from the day before that I didn’t get a chance to do with my blackberry during the day (this is the most incredible device for me – I receive over 80 emails each day – this device saves me an enormous amount of time and money).

7am Start to wake up Georgie my 8 year old daughter – sometimes this takes a while. Breakfast, morning tea and lunch are ordered or made and then we tackle the ‘getting dressed’ part. As far as organizing goes my day is practically over before I leave for school to drop Georgie off.We try and leave by 8.30 – that even includes 3 trips back into the house for the things we forgot ie News, hats, sports gear etc
| 9am Meet the girls in the warehouse – go through any emails that I have sent through earlier in the morning. As I send a lot of press releases out – these need to be completely checked by me as “first impressions” count. My staff is incredible – they never stop working – I am truly grateful – they are amazing. Both Sasha (can u believe a staff member with similar name) and Francine are single mummies too. We all have the same parenting issues – so many mornings are spent chatting about work and our “girls !!” | ||
| 11am I make all of my meetings between 11 and 1 – firstly due to traffic – I don’t want to go anywhere near the city before 11am and secondly after about 2 - I get tried and concentration disappears. I will go and see suppliers to check samples of new items due in or often I will meet them in my boardroom – so I don’t have to travel around. Often I will take new products across to Tony (my graphic artist) to shoot and we will discuss changes I need to make to the website (I am always improving / changing this). | ||
| 1pm Lunch is always very important – as I start so early – I always look for something yummy to eat. I’ll often go back to the office and have something with Francine or I can always find my mum! Back in the office – I constantly check stock of everything – we can have a busy promotion and stocks can disappear instantly - I absolutely hate selling out of anything so this needs to be consistently up to date.Throughout the day I receive so many emails which in turn run the company. I receive emails from magazines needing new products for editorials – so instantly I email the warehouse with what needs to be done or email Tony requesting high resolution images to be forwarded to the magazine. Emails from Channel 9 in regards to new spots available for my advertorial or magazines with new great rates for pinklily to buy space. I reply to every question from clients about my products instantly and I’m constantly on the phone – going through 2 batteries each day!I absolutely love each day of pinklily – every day is different with different challenges. I constantly check through my to do list and try and cross off as many tasks as possible !There might even be time for a blow dry ?? My weakness / passion / time out / necessity !! | ||
| 3pm I leave the office / home ready to pick up Georgia. Making sure I have afternoon tea ready – even I remember how hungry I was after school !! Homework is done as soon as we get home and this is where I try and turn phones and my blackberry off for one hour. (it usually never happens as I am too busy) Dinner is usually prepared by Caroline (my nanny). I had to make a financial decision of whether I needed a nanny or put myself through the stress of buying and preparing meals – I opted for the nanny !I am so exhausted by 6pm. Georgie and I love tv – we will watch something together and as there is only the two of us – have been known to sleep together and in bed by 7.30 watching CSI ?? | ||

I am always asleep by 9 – often before my daughter so I am fresh again to start by 5am! Today will be an entirely different day as my advertorial is on the Kerrie Anne Show (a popular morning show in Australia). Start is the same but by 9am there are 4 of us in complete lockdown with the boardroom door shut! Calls are answered by myself and my team and orders are taken. We stop for lunch and then the packing begins to get the orders out by the next day. I can’t answer my phone and only minimal emails are sent as this encompasses the whole day. I will arrange for my mum to pick up Georgia as I will stay back till 8pm packing the orders.Yes some days can be glamorous owning and running your company but there are many other days when it is plain hard work! |
